Urology

Dr Roberts provides a broad general adult Urology service. Wide exposure to all areas of urology whilst training under experienced, knowledgeable urologists across Queensland and New South Wales, in addition to up-to-date evidence based care through his research interests, means that Dr Roberts can provide advice and treatment across the whole spectrum of Urology.

These conditions include:
- problematic urinary voiding or other urinary symptoms
- kidney stones
- blood in the urine
- abnormal PSA blood test or concerns for prostate cancer
- suspected cancer of the genitourinary organs (kidney, ureter, bladder, urethra, testicle, adrenal gland)
- urinary tract infections

Dr Roberts takes pride in ensuring high-quality care is provided, including being comfortable with referring to other specialists with subspecialty expertise.

Areas of Expertise

Robotic surgery

Robotic surgery combines the advantages of the minimally invasive, laparoscopic surgical approach (shorter time in hospital and faster return to usual duties) with increased dexterity and precision in order to achieve optimal surgical outcomes . Dr Roberts is a highly trained robotic surgeon, having received fellowship certification from the EAU Robotic Urology Section (ERUS) completed in one of only two centres in Australia. In particular, Dr Roberts specialises in robotic prostatectomy, regularly tracking his outcomes and incorporating the latest developments in the field to ensure surgery is of the highest quality possible.

Prostate Cancer

The thought of a prostate cancer diagnosis is scary for many men as it will happen to 1 in 6 men in Australia. Prostate cancer diagnostics is a rapidly evolving field. Dr Roberts is a research and clinical leader in this field, guiding cutting-edge research that is incorporated appropriately into his clinical practice to ensure that his patients receive the most up-to-date approach for prostate cancer diagnosis. Dr Roberts uses innovations in diagnostic tests, as well as use of imaging (including MRI and PSMA PET scans) in order to non-invasively characterise prostate cancer as accurately as possible. Sometimes a biopsy can be safely avoided! When a biopsy is required, Dr Roberts can use novel biopsy and image-fusion techniques that can be tailored to the individual needs of each patient.

Urinary Tract Infections

Urinary tract infections affect 1 in 2 women and 1 in 20 men in their lifetime. A significant proportion of these will become recurrent or complicated and very difficult to diagnose and treat. Dr Roberts has developed expertise in managing urinary tract infections with local and international experts to consider a holistic approach to this potentially debilitating problem. Experience in a multidisciplinary clinic, as well as reviewing and contributing to latest research, has resulted in Dr Roberts being invited to present on this field to educate other specialists.
